STOP and Smell the Roses!

Updated: Dec 30, 2021

All my life I have been running. So often I forget to stop to smell the roses and enjoy the scenery. I heard that 10,000 times from my friends, colleagues, family and my patients. YOU ARE ON Fire! Slow down!

My life has always been go, go, go like a race. I even feel guilty sitting to enjoy a cup of tea without feeling guilty because I think I am wasting my time.

Wasting my time to enjoy myself? I know you might say it does not make sense and you are right, it does not.

Sometimes my poor feet just want to rest but I still drag them until going to bed at night. I think if my feet could talk, they would sue me or would ask for compensation.

Some of you might say, oh yes I am like that; and to be honest, I think so many people are like me. We all busy with work, family, kids, paying bills and the list goes on and on. We are scared that if we stop, everything will crush around us so we run! We even run before we know how to walk!

Sometimes we forget, that we are not a machine! One day we will run out of energy and collapse. Taking time for yourself is important. So Stop and Smell the Roses!

Life is so short; it will be in a blink of an eye. It likes a fish out of water in your hand. If you put more pressure on it, will slip out of your hands quicker than you can imagine! Yes, it is true.

Whatever you do try to enjoy it

If you are cooking think about doing your cooking with a bit of fun, like singing and dancing while you’re cooking. If you have to go to the local shop, what about walking there and listening to music. If you have dinner with family or friends, what about putting your phone and laptop away and enjoying the conversion and being engaged. It is not hard, is not it!

Treat yourself as you treat your loved one!

It is easy to do a nice thing for others because you love them. What about starting to do a nice thing for you without feeling guilty. This is possible when you start to be your own best friend. You are your childhood friend, are you not? So treat yourself as your best childhood friend. Now is time to spend some time with your best friend, the friend called YOU.

Every day do one thing for yourself

It does not need to be a big thing. It can be as simple as making a nice cup of tea for yourself and relaxing for a short time. If you love to walk and do not have time for it make time. No one is as important as you. You should be your number one in life.

Have a date with yourself!

Be your best date! You need to have some time by yourself, IT IS IMPORTANT. Why? Because you start to know yourself better! You have time just by yourself to see what you want in life, what is your goal and your future dreams.

So, what about cooking a nice meal, lighting a candle and enjoying being by yourself. Do not worry if it feels a bit crazy, learn to relax and spoil yourself! Or why not buy yourself a bunch of flowers and enjoy them.

Invest in yourself

Invest in your physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. It is so important to make time for yourself and look after your health. You invest money for your future and try to work so hard to save for your retirement. There is no point when you reach that age and have so much money but you cannot enjoy your golden age because you are physically or mentally not able to. When you are young, you are working hard to have a career, invest in properties and have a family. So, you run and run and run but you forget about the most important person in your life, YOU.

You forgot that you are doing all of this for a reason and it is to enjoy your retirement with your family and possibly your grandchildren. So invest in your health and wellbeing.

We are all busy but it is time to STOP and Smell the Roses! Because sadly one day you will realise that you are not able to smell, despite being surrounded by beautifully

scented gardens.
